Fundamental theory of distance education is one of the core research areas of RCDE. This area focuses on a series of key problems which need to be solved when regarding distance education as a discipline or a major. It includes the logical starting point and essence of distance education, the theoretical system framework of distance education, the basic laws of teaching and learning in distance education, the basic laws and characteristics of interaction in distance education, the roles classification and capacity requirement for professionals in Chinese distance education and the construction of professional courses for distance education.
